OKAY I don't understand why Taylor is being criticized for performing in "lingerie" at a lingerie fashion show. And seriously if anyone would actually LOOK at her outfits yes, they are sexy, but they are still classy and not over-the-top revealing. I think I’ve finally worked out why this Kanye video has me so uncomfortable. Obviously, it’s disgusting and crude and awful, but I try to just shrug this kind of thing off as petty and cheap and ridiculous. I can’t with this video. This video depicted Taylor’s naked, exposed, sexualized body in a bed right next to Kanye West. As if the lyric wasn’t enough. The lyric was gross, it was angering, but this is on an entirely different level. 

What he depicts in this scene is a conceptualized, symbolic rape. This is a woman who has told him no. That she does not approve of this lyric, that she does not approve of the concept or “joke” he is trying to make, that she wants no part in this, and what does he do? He continues to throw her name out there. He continues to harass her. And now? He actually depicts her naked in bed, seemingly after having had sex with him. He has put her likeness in a compromising position in a video for a song she wanted no part in, in a video she wanted no part in, next to a person she wants no part in. It’s a massive power trip. It’s essentially Kanye saying “Look what I can do, even when you say no. You can’t stop me.” 

Imagine being Taylor in this position. Imagine if this was you. Imagine if you were her parent, her brother, her best friend. Imagine not being able to defend yourself against someone who continues to come after you, time and time again. Who humiliates you. Who is the epitome of misogynistic, power hungry, narcissistic, and crude. This wasn’t just a shitty music video. This wasn’t a “drag”. This was harassment. This was abuse. This was disgusting.
